Mediation

Family Mediation is an alternative way to resolve disputes following a relationship breakdown. It enables couples to meet with a mediator, who is entirely neutral. It is ideal for people who can no longer live together, but need to be able to communicate with each other.

Mediation can be faster and more cost effective than court proceedings and it also provides far greater flexibility in what can be agreed, rather than having a more rigid court order imposed.

Initially we arrange to meet you both individually, this enables you to get to know the Mediator before embarking on mediation. It also allows you to provide the Mediator with information about your case and ensure that you feel comfortable with the mediator. She will also be able to assess whether mediation is suitable for you. Once the individual meetings have taken place, we can then arrange the first joint meeting.

If you were using mediation to discuss children only, then we would estimate you would need 1 – 2 meetings, for finances 3 – 4 meetings and both children and finances, 4 meetings. Of course this is only an estimate and it could be that you may require more or less than this.

Charges
For the introductory meeting, the costs are £85 per person, excluding VAT.

The Mediation sessions are charged at £95 per person, per hour, excluding VAT. Most sessions tend to last about 11/2 hours.

We do not charge for routine letters and/or telephone calls.

Sarah Denny, who is an experienced Family Law Solicitor, is qualified through Resolution as Mediator. She therefore has the benefit of knowing the law and being trained with mediation skills. If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to telephone the office or contact Sarah direct on her email, sarahdenny@ronaldsons.com.
